Brief explanation of the artwork:
The creation of Fossil Moon is a meticulous manual process, involving hand carving, sanding and engineering.
This high-craftmanship makes the impossible, possible.
Since 2019, Amarist Studio has been immersed in investigating and documenting the process of artistic research into the geological formation of alabaster; its chemical composition, its use throughout history. Today, Amarist Studio presents an innovative methodology for working with alabaster, using multidisciplinary techniques that allow for the creation of shapes and dimensions that were previously impossible with alabaster.
Amarist has created a new visual language for the material that highlights alabaster's chemical essence, composed primarily of two molecules: Calcium Sulfate and Water (formula: CaSO4H2O), which allows it to be poetically referred to as fossilized water, "Aqua Fossil." The transparencies achieved allow the stone to be backlit and reveal its natural veins.
Therefore, the "Aqua Fossil" sculptures constitute an oxymoron in themselves,
freezing the ephemeral moment of flowing water on a solid and immutable surface.
About Arán Lozano:
Arán Lozano, born in 1988, grew up in a creative environment surrounded by materials while observing the work of his artisan father. From a young age, he was given the freedom to play and experiment with different materials and tools in the workshop, which led to the development of his creativity through experimentation, fueling his interest in the creative world.
This helped him develop a significant respect and knowledge of craftsmanship and fine materials. Years later, his background and creative passion led him to become a designer, and he began training in additional design methodologies, leading him to co-found Amarist Studio together with Clara Campo.
New York, London, Paris, Basel, Miami, Venice, Madrid, and Dubai are some of the world art capitals where Amarist has exhibited his work. They have also been featured in prestigious international articles and publications such as The Financial Times, Forbes Magazine, The Washington Post, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle Decoration, among others.
Another achievement of the studio was that they were both selected in 2018 by Forbes magazine for the prestigious "30 under 30 Europe" list.
