Brief explanation of the artwork:
“Our reflection is never pure crystal; it is crisscrossed by distortion, veils, and marks that narrate the passage of life.” The imperfections make us Who we are. — Just like a little scratch in a car, gives it character, tells a story.
‘Reflex’ stands as an intimate wailing wall and explores the paradox of being human in all it’s complexity.
the light we project and, sometimes, the shadow we hide.
This symbolic tension between the artwork and the viewer plays between rigidity and fragility, permanence and impermanence,
tracing a dialogue with mechanical construction and human gesture.
About Yannick Viles:
Viles investigates the processes of production and manufacturing, challenging the limits of substances, often associated with utility, to reveal their aesthetic and expressive potential. His practice is based on the transformation of industrial materials into poetic and experimental forms, fusing the logic of industry with the sensibility of craftsmanship.
Guided by an intuitive approach, Viles positions material as both subject and medium, where each surface becomes a space of memory and resistance. Influenced by movements that embrace materiality, such as Arte Povera and Post-Minimalism, as well as by the industrial legacy of his Catalan surroundings, Viles cultivates a practice that honors experimentation, tactility, and the unexpected poetry found in the creative process.
